DR. TERRY M. BUCHHOLZ

Dr. Terry Michael Buchholz was born deaf to a Deaf family in Waterloo, Iowa. From 1954 to 1967, he attended Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In the fall of 1967, he attended Gallaudet University, but was expelled during the spring semester

Pastor came to Minnesota to look for a job. He was employed as a welder at Donaldson Company, Inc. for 11½ years. Eventually, he and his late wife, Mary, got married on May 31, 1969. They were blessed with three daughters. Their son, Chad, was born prematurely and died after surviving for only 15 hours. They now have fourteen grandchildren.

Pastor was brought up in the Lutheran faith. He was saved in 1976 under the ministry of Dr. Ed Johnson of First Baptist Church in Rosemount, Minnesota. In 1980, he surrendered his life to God after He called him to be a pastor.  After that, he attended Tennessee Temple University. He was appointed as an assistant pastor of Highland Park Baptist Church Deaf Ministry as part of an internship program for three years. After his graduation in 1986, they moved to Largo, Maryland. His first position was as an Associate Pastor of Deaf ministry at Riverdale Baptist Church in Largo, Maryland. He also pastored a Deaf Church in Lanham, Maryland.

Pastor and his late wife had the burden and a vision to start a Deaf church in DC Metro area. In 1989, he planted a Deaf church in Seabrook, Maryland. Nearly two years later, the church along with his family moved to Wheaton, Maryland.

This Deaf church became Wheaton Baptist Church of the Deaf.  Under Pastor’s guidance, it grew rapidly since its founding 35 years ago.  Multitudes of lost Deaf souls have been saved through this Deaf church.  Many Gallaudet students were also led to Christ through its Gallaudet ministry. 

In 2001, a year after Hampshire View Baptist Church opened the door at its new location in Silver Spring, Deaf church changed its name to Hampshire View Baptist Deaf Church (HVBDC). 

In August 2004, HVBDC finally occupied its new home in the triple modular building on Hampshire View Baptist Church’s property. HVBDC is blessed to have a leased building as a place of their own, where they can have worship service, develop activities, and start different ministries.
